A disturbing case of domestic violence has emerged in Adamawa State, where a 20-year-old woman, Jamila Ishiaku, has been arrested for allegedly pouring hot water on her pregnant sister-in-law while she was in labor.
The incident took place in Dubeli, Yola North Local Government Area, following a heated argument between the two women. The suspect, who has confessed to the crime, claimed she acted out of anger.
“I was just angry. I didn’t think it would escalate like this,” Ishiaku stated during an interview.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Nguroje, assured that the suspect would be prosecuted. He urged residents to seek peaceful resolutions to disputes instead of resorting to violence.
“If you see something, say something. The police will always act,” Nguroje emphasized.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family is demanding justice. Her sister, Nefisat Dahiru, has called on authorities to ensure that the suspect faces the full weight of the law. The victim’s husband, Gambo Dahiru, also expressed his distress over the attack, revealing that his wife remains in excruciating pain.
“I have not stopped crying. My wife is suffering, and she has been in unbearable pain. I demand justice,” he lamented.
The police have assured that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged accordingly.
