The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) has rejected claims made by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, regarding an alliance between the North and the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NEYGA’s spokesman, Mr. Ibrahim Dan-Musa, described Lawal’s assertion as a fabrication and urged Nigerians to disregard what he termed an undemocratic narrative.
Lawal, now a chieftain of the ADC, had told journalists that the National Political Consultative Group (North) had adopted the ADC as its preferred opposition platform for the 2027 elections. He made the statement at the conclusion of the group’s 3rd Expanded Meeting, held at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Abuja Continental Hotel.
Reacting, Dan-Musa said, “The North is not a political pawn to be manipulated by a select few. Any decision of such magnitude must involve wide consultations with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and key regional stakeholders.”
He added that attempts to speak for the North without proper representation were not only misleading but dangerous to the democratic process.
“We know the true patriots from the opportunists,” he continued. “The North will not be railroaded into another political misadventure by those who see our region merely as a stepping stone to power.”
NEYGA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive dialogue and warned against using the region’s name to push partisan interests.
