Veteran Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has broken his silence after his mother publicly alleged that he was kidnapped — a claim that set off national concern and even triggered a petition to the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a bizarre twist, the iconic singer turned the allegations into a joke during a recent comedy show performance, leaving many questioning the truth behind the dramatic family claims. “Allegedly, I’ve been missing… allegedly, I’ve been kidnapped,” 2Baba quipped on stage. “This show is actually to raise money for my ransom.”
His sarcastic remarks have drawn mixed reactions, especially after it was revealed that the singer had been making public appearances throughout the supposed “kidnap” period — most notably with Natasha Osawaru, his new romantic interest and Deputy Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
The duo’s appearance at the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja, just weeks after the DSS was petitioned over 2Baba’s disappearance, has fueled speculation that the missing-person narrative was a smokescreen — either to dodge scrutiny or distract from his publicized relationship with the high-profile lawmaker.
The Idibia family had earlier declared him missing in a petition dated February 7, 2025, claiming he left home in loungewear on February 10 and never returned. Yet, his sudden reemergence and lighthearted dismissal of the situation have raised eyebrows and sparked backlash from fans who feel misled.
Critics say the entire saga reeks of drama and deception, with some questioning whether the “kidnap” claim was a ploy — either personal or political — to manipulate public sentiment or shield private matters.
