45-year-old to stand trial over alleged theft of phones valued at ₦300,000 in Ogun

A 45-year-old man, Longe Adekanmi, was on Monday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly breaking into a residence and stealing two mobile phones valued at ₦300,000.

Adekanmi, whose address was not disclosed, is facing two counts of burglary and stealing.

Prosecutor ASP E.O. Adaraloye told the court that the incident occurred on April 25 at about 3:00 a.m. in the Second Transformer area of Ijagba, Ota. He alleged that Adekanmi broke into the home of the complainant, Mariam Marouf, and stole a Samsung A03 Android phone and an iPhone 7 Plus.

According to the prosecutor, the stolen items were traced to the defendant after the complainant reported the matter to the police.

Adaraloye said the alleged offences contravened Sections 390 and 411 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted Adekanmi bail in the sum of ₦50,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety, the magistrate ruled, must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed, and present proof of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.

The case was adjourned until August 14 for further hearing.
