A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Tuesday, ordered the remand of a 50-year-old man, Mutiu Arowolo over alleged defilement and impregnating a 13-year-old girl.
Arowolo, whose address is unknown, is facing trial on a two-count charge bordering on defilement and unlawful penetration.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, ordered his remand at the Nigerian Custodial Centre in Badagry, pending the advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
However, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, adjourned the case until Sept.24, for mentioning.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in May, at Sawmill, Ibereko area of Badagry, Lagos.
Ekpo said that the defendant allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.
“The defendant unlawfully penetrated sexually the vagina, which resulted in unwanted pregnancy.
“The defendant warned the girl not to tell her parents about it until the pregnancy started showing, when she told them about the whole incident.
“The offences contravened the provisions of Sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
