The National Grid experienced its third collapse this week, with power generation plunging at around 8:16 a.m. on Saturday, October 19. The sudden outage has left the nation without power, as the grid had previously tripped off on both Monday and Tuesday, only to be restored shortly after.
Prior to the collapse, power generation was recorded at 3,042 megawatts at 8 a.m., peaking at 3,968MW earlier at 7 a.m. However, by 9 a.m., power output had dropped drastically to just 47MW. Allocation to power distribution companies also fell to 0.00MW, signaling a complete halt in electricity supply across the country.
The cause of this latest collapse is yet to be determined as authorities work to restore normal power operations. This series of disruptions has raised concerns about the stability of the national grid and the ongoing challenges facing Nigeria’s power sector.
