The Obidient Movement, collaborating with various Anambra State Support Groups, emphasized that a transformed Nigeria is possible if capable leaders are elected into office.
During a one-day symposium titled, “Repositioning the Obidient Movement for Greater Impact,” held at the All Saints Cathedral Auditorium in Onitsha, Anambra State, the movement reinforced its goal to support and elect competent leadership.
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, highlighted that achieving a “new Nigeria” depends on citizens’ commitment to electing suitable leaders. He reflected on the work of Nigeria’s founding leaders, including Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Tafawa Balewa, who set a strong foundation for the nation—one that has been weakened by poor leadership.
“With the formalization and restructuring of the Obidient Movement, this symposium seeks to align our efforts, reinforce our organizational structure, and strengthen our mission to promote social and political unity, ethical leadership, and purpose-driven advocacy,” Tanko explained.
Tanko outlined the symposium’s six key objectives: harmonization, restructuring, unity of purpose, fostering social and political cohesion, ethical leadership, and involving the diaspora in reshaping the nation.
“We are focused on advancing good governance and accountability by bringing together key stakeholders to discuss Nigeria’s path forward. This gathering reaffirms our commitment to unity, justice, and equity,” he stated.
“A new Nigeria is achievable if we take responsibility for electing the right leaders. We’re dedicated to ending poor governance by ensuring competent people are chosen to lead.”
He added that the Obidient Movement is focused on empowering youth, advocating for accountability, and championing values of good governance, justice, and equity. Tanko encouraged continued support from the Southeast, reminding attendees that “charity begins at home.”
He also commended Peter Obi’s dedication to Nigeria, stressing that by 2027, Nigerians should prioritize electing leaders with the vision and capacity to drive national progress.
Prof. Stella Okunna, who chaired the event, underscored the importance of good governance and praised the movement for its efforts. She urged the team to expand its impact beyond party lines.
