FG: Host Nations Accept 65 Nigerian Ambassadors-Designate

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that 65 out of the 69 ambassadors-designate appointed by President Bola Tinubu have been officially accepted by their respective host countries.

Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa announced in a formal statement that the diplomatic clearance process, known as agrément, has progressed smoothly with a 97 percent acceptance rate from international partners. Most of the approved envoys have already arrived in their posted stations and presented their Letters of Credence to begin their official duties.

The ministry noted that out of the initial list of 69 appointees, only two positions currently remain unresolved due to unavoidable circumstances. Senator Grace Bent, who was nominated as the ambassador-designate to Togo, declined the appointment prior to deployment, while Mohammed Mahmud Lele, the envoy designated for Algeria, tragically passed away in April following an illness. Replacement processes for both diplomatic posts are already underway.

Diplomatic approvals from two additional host countries remain pending, though foreign affairs officials confirmed that assurances have been received and official consent is expected shortly. The federal government reiterated its commitment to expanding Nigeria’s economic diplomacy and strengthening international bilateral partnerships across all foreign missions.
