Nigerian Army troops, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser Tactical Team, have dismantled a Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist camp in the Kopre Mountain area of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing more than 21 terrorists during the operation.
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Captain Mohammed Goni, said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to locate and rescue victims abducted from Mussa community and the Lassa area.
Mr Goni said the military would continue intelligence-driven operations against terrorist strongholds in the region.
“The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, remains resolute in sustaining aggressive, intelligence-driven operations aimed at locating and rescuing abducted persons, dismantling terrorist strongholds, degrading their logistics and fighting capabilities,” he said.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday following credible intelligence on terrorist activities in the area.
The troops, operating under Operation Hadin Kai, reportedly engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters during the operation.
The military said more than 21 terrorists were neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The troops also destroyed the terrorists’ logistics infrastructure and recovered several AK-47 rifles, magazines and a substantial quantity of 7.62mm ammunition. Motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit were also destroyed.
Search and rescue operations intensified
The military spokesman said search and rescue operations were being intensified until all abducted persons were located and rescued.
The development is significant for communities affected by terrorist attacks and abductions in parts of Adamawa, where residents have continued to face security threats from insurgent groups operating across the North-East.
The military said the latest operation was aimed not only at degrading the terrorists’ fighting capability but also at denying them freedom of movement and access to operational bases.
Military praises troops
The military high command commended the troops and the ONSA Tactical Team for what it described as their “gallantry, professionalism, resilience and seamless coordination.”
It said the operation demonstrated the ability of the security forces to project combat power into difficult terrain and disrupt terrorist activities.
The military also reiterated its commitment to sustaining operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP elements and protecting communities affected by insurgency.
For residents of Hong and surrounding communities, the operation could help reduce the ability of terrorist groups to launch attacks, abduct residents and move freely through the area.
However, the continued search for abducted persons shows that the security challenge remains ongoing. The military’s ability to maintain pressure on terrorist groups, disrupt their logistics and obtain reliable intelligence from communities will remain critical to preventing further attacks.
