In a shocking turn of events, security operatives in Anambra State have apprehended a man from Abia State who allegedly relocated to Anambra to establish an unregistered shrine and operate as a native doctor. The man, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, reportedly purchased a large expanse of land in a remote area of Anambra where he constructed a shrine and began conducting ritualistic activities.
His arrest came just two days after the dramatic capture of another native doctor who was caught with a baby he allegedly intended to use for ritual purposes. Authorities, already on high alert due to the previous incident, intensified surveillance and investigations, which eventually led them to the newly established shrine.
Upon raiding the shrine, law enforcement officers made a series of horrifying discoveries. Among the findings were a pregnant woman and a man, both of whom had been kidnapped and hidden in a well within the premises. The victims were immediately rescued and taken for medical attention, while the suspect was taken into custody.
The discovery sparked outrage across nearby communities, especially in parts of Enugu State. Enraged youths from Enugu reportedly mobilized and stormed the location, destroying the shrine in protest of the growing number of ritual-related activities in the region.
Authorities revealed that after the destruction of his shrine, the suspect attempted to flee the country. However, he was intercepted and arrested during an escape attempt at a border checkpoint. According to the security team handling the case, the man will be detained for further investigation and prosecution.
Additionally, it was reported that the suspect will be required to sign an official undertaking, pledging to leave Anambra State permanently and never return.
This incident has once again drawn attention to the increasing activities of fake native doctors and ritualists in southeastern Nigeria. Residents have called on security agencies to intensify their efforts in identifying and dismantling illegal shrines, as well as prosecuting those involved in such inhumane and criminal practices.
