Adobe Ambassador drops powerful message for photographers, content creators

Abuja — Adobe Ambassador and founder of Africa Shooters, Ebuka Mordi, has called on Nigerian photographers and visual storytellers to use their creative skills to highlight social issues and promote positive change in society.

Mordi made the call in an interview with the Voice of the people (VOP) on Saturday in Abuja, on the sidelines of the 2025 Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk.

The annual event, powered by Adobe Lightroom, was organised by Africa Shooters in collaboration with the World Trade Centre Abuja. It brought together photographers and creatives from across Nigeria to capture images, exchange ideas, and share perspectives on the power of visual storytelling.

According to Mordi, photography is a powerful tool for social transformation, capable of raising awareness, inspiring empathy, and driving action.

“Photographers have a pivotal role to play in shifting narratives for a better society. It begins with appreciating the true importance of photography,” he said.
“In Nigeria, photographers are often seen merely as cameramen, but our work has the power to shape perceptions and tell our own stories as a nation.”

He explained that through compelling images, photographers can bring neglected issues to global attention, spark conversations, and inspire change.

Mordi said the Abuja Photowalk was designed to showcase creativity and innovation in Nigeria and across Africa, while positioning the continent as a global hub for visual excellence.

“Africa Shooters was created to ensure that our voices and stories are represented worldwide, and this event marks the beginning of that journey,” he added.

Beyond the photowalk, participants engaged in Adobe-led workshops, featuring hands-on sessions on Lightroom’s latest features, collaborative projects, and opportunities for networking and creative experimentation.

Mordi emphasised the importance of capacity building for young photographers, stressing the need for professionalism, ethical standards, and contextual storytelling.

“I’ve trained over a thousand students in photography and remain passionate about grooming the next generation of professionals who understand the power their work holds,” he said.
“Photographers must give context to their images and avoid misrepresentation or fabricating stories.”

The Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk, held annually across more than 18 countries, connects photographers globally to refine their craft, explore emerging technologies, and foster community.

The Abuja edition also served as the official launch of Africa Shooters, a new community dedicated to amplifying African creativity and storytelling on the global stage.
