After 8-Year Ordeal, Nigerian Pastor Acquitted of Rape in South Africa.

The Eastern Cape High Court in South Africa has found Nigerian pastor Timothy Omotoso not guilty of rape charges involving female church members.

Timothy Omotoso and his two co-accused; Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho, were brought before the court on a 32-count indictment related to rape and human trafficking. It was reported that Omotoso would be deported to Nigeria immediately after the verdict.

According to allegations, the pastor invited several young women to his South African home in Umhlanga, allegedly molesting them.

The founder of Tim Omotoso Global Outreach and Ancient of Day Broadcasting Network and senior pastor of the Jesus Dominion International based in  Durban, South Africa was arrested shortly after he landed at an airport in April 2017.

The trial judge, Irma Schoeman, ruled yesterday that prosecutors failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt.

South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) shared a similar view, stating that, “The former prosecutors in charge of the case acted improperly and the accused were not sufficiently cross-examined.”

Following the verdict on Wednesday, Mr. Omotoso will be deported to Nigeria.
