The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has expressed condolences to individuals, families, and businesses affected by the fire outbreaks at Afriland Towers and Emab Plaza in Lagos on September 16.
In a statement on Thursday, NIA Chairman, Mr. Kunle Ahmed, said the association deeply mourned the loss of lives and property, noting that it stood in solidarity with victims as they grieve and rebuild.
Ahmed disclosed that the association had identified member companies that provided insurance cover for the affected buildings and assured that all losses under valid insurance policies would be compensated by the respective insurers.
“As the umbrella body for insurance and reinsurance companies in Nigeria, we wish to assure all affected parties that we have identified member companies who provided cover for the said buildings. Losses covered under valid insurance policies will be duly compensated by the respective companies. The insurance industry remains committed to upholding its promise of protection and financial recovery in times of crisis,” he said.
The NIA chairman also used the occasion to urge business owners and members of the public to embrace insurance as a critical tool for risk management and resilience. He stressed that the importance of insurance cannot be overstated, especially in a world where unforeseen events often carry far-reaching consequences.
