Ahead of 2027, ‘Village Boys’ Emerge to Counter Tinubu’s ‘City Boys

As the 2027 general elections draw closer, supporters of former Presidential candidate Peter Obi have launched a new political initiative dubbed the ‘Village Boys Movement’, positioning it as a grassroots counterpart to President Bola Tinubu’s ‘City Boys’ campaign. The movement seeks to mobilize rural communities and amplify the voices of ordinary Nigerians in the national political discourse.

Speaking at the launch event, organizers of the Village Boys Movement emphasized the need for greater inclusion of rural populations in policymaking and electoral engagement. “While urban elites have long dominated political narratives, our movement is about ensuring that the people in villages and smaller towns have a clear and powerful voice in shaping the country’s future,” one of the coordinators said.

The initiative has already gained traction on social media, with supporters highlighting the contrast between rural grassroots energy and the urban-focused City Boys’ network. Analysts suggest that the Village Boys Movement could play a pivotal role in galvanizing voter turnout in key swing states ahead of 2027.

Political observers note that the rise of such movements reflects a growing trend in Nigerian politics, where candidates are increasingly targeting distinct demographic and geographic constituencies to consolidate support.
