Anambra APC Governorship Aspirant, Paul Chukwuma, Dumps Party on Eve of Primary

Just 24 hours to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Anambra State, frontline aspirant Dr. Paul Chukwuma has withdrawn from the party.

Chukwuma, who was among seven aspirants that purchased the APC’s N40 million nomination form and participated in the screening process, tendered his resignation in a letter dated April 3. The letter was addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Umueri Ward 2, Anambra East Local Government Area.

The other aspirants still in the race include Chukuma Umeoji, Obiora Okonkwo, Nicholas Ukachukwu, Johnbosco Onunkwo, Valentine Ozigbo, and Edozie Madu.

In his resignation letter titled ‘Resignation of Party Membership’, Chukwuma stated that his decision was rooted in his ambition to build a broader political movement within Anambra State—one that aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote. “My decision finds expression in my quest to connect Anambra State to national politics by building a broader and all-encompassing political movement.”

He expressed gratitude to party leadership for their support over the years and assured of his continued commitment to progressive ideals and a prosperous Anambra.

The APC is set to hold its primary election on Saturday, with political maneuvering intensifying among the remaining aspirants.
