The wife of the Anambra State Governor and founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has introduced a community-driven garden programme alongside a weekly physical exercise routine in Anaocha Local Government Area.
The initiative, launched at the Anaocha Local Government headquarters in Neni, aims to promote organic farming, encourage healthy food consumption, and reduce the cost of household crops and vegetables. A key component of the programme is the establishment of a farmers’ market, where fresh produce will be available at affordable prices.
The medium-scale agricultural project is part of Mrs. Soludo’s broader campaign to enhance healthy living across Anambra State. It is currently being adopted by several local governments, with each benefiting LGA responsible for implementing the initiative within its communities.
Speaking at the launch, Mrs. Soludo emphasized the need for parents and guardians to embrace traditional communal parenting values, highlighting how shared responsibilities contribute to child development and community well-being.
Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, praised the initiative, noting that its focus on simple, healthy lifestyle choices aligns with the state government’s vision of providing quality and affordable healthcare.
The Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Mr. Romanus Ibekwe, described the initiative as a transformative project that will positively impact food security and overall health in the region.
As part of the event, Mrs. Soludo visited the council’s healthy living garden, where she ceremonially planted crops to mark the official commencement of the project in the area.
