
Awka, Anambra State – The Anambra State Police Command has launched an intensive operation to re-arrest two suspects who escaped custody while assisting in the investigation of the murder of the late Hon. Justice Azuka, a lawmaker representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the State House of Assembly.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, upon receiving reports of the suspects’ escape on February 18, 2025, immediately deployed human, operational, and intelligence resources to track them down. He also ordered disciplinary action against the officers whose negligence led to the escape.
According to preliminary reports, the two suspects had been cooperating with police investigators during an operation to apprehend the receiver of stolen vehicles linked to the criminal gang. While the operation led to the arrest of the receiver and the recovery of two vehicles suspected to have been stolen, the two suspects managed to flee the scene.
In response, CP Orutugu assured the public that the police are taking decisive action to bring the escapees to justice. He reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities in the state, emphasizing that efforts are in full force to re-arrest the suspects.
Additionally, any officers found responsible for the suspects’ escape will face disciplinary measures in line with police regulations.
