Mrs. Chinelo Okocha, Principal of Ado Girls’ Secondary School, Onitsha, has commended the successful adoption of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) model for the 2025 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Speaking in Awka on Friday, Okocha described the initiative as a milestone in advancing the quality and credibility of examinations in Nigeria. She noted that the transition to CBT was both innovative and transformative, with the potential to address many of the challenges associated with paper-based assessments.
According to her, the system eliminates human errors in marking, ensures faster processing and release of results, and provides candidates with accurate and timely feedback. She added that the model also reduces reliance on paper and logistics, making it more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
“With CBT, cases of malpractice are drastically reduced. The system promotes fairness and integrity, thereby strengthening the credibility of the WAEC certificate,” Okocha said.
She further noted that the adoption of CBT aligns Nigeria with international best practices, while also equipping students with essential ICT skills that will prepare them for higher education and global opportunities.
Okocha called on policymakers and stakeholders in the education sector to embrace the innovation fully, stressing that the smooth conduct of the CBT-based WAEC examination at Ado Girls’ Secondary School had proven that schools could successfully adapt to the model with proper planning and infrastructure.
“CBT is not just an option but the way forward for credible, transparent, and globally competitive education in Nigeria. The future of public examinations in this country lies in computer-based testing,” she added.
