In a decisive move to tackle the lingering insecurity in Anambra State, Governor Prof. Charles Soludo, CFR, has officially unveiled a new security outfit, AGỤNECHEMBA.
The unveiling ceremony took place International Convention Center, Awka on Saturday, 18th January 2025.
Speaking at the event, Governor Soludo highlighted the critical importance of security, law, and order to achieving his administration’s vision of a livable and prosperous homeland. He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Ndị Anambra.
Governor Soludo emphasized that the ongoing transformation across all sectors under his administration—appreciated by Ndị Anambra—must be reinforced by a robust security framework with zero tolerance for criminality.
Acknowledging the peculiar challenges posed by criminal activities masked with deceptive ideologies and propaganda, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to eradicating insecurity in the state.
While underscoring the achievements of the Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA), formed in October 2023 to combat touting in the state, Governor Soludo announced the launch of a special intervention force codenamed “Operation Udo Ga-Achi,” meaning “Operation Peace Shall Prevail.”
The Governor called on all stakeholders—citizens, traditional rulers, town unions, and civil organizations—to actively participate in the fight against crime.
He stated:
“Let me reiterate our extension of a hand of friendship and amnesty to kidnappers, cultists, drug dealers, and other categories of criminals to surrender themselves, with their weapons, and my government will ensure that they are rehabilitated and empowered to become productive citizens.”
The Governor urged those involved in criminal activities to seize the opportunity of the amnesty program to turn a new leaf and contribute positively to society.
“Anyone that gives us credible information that leads to the arrest of any kidnapper/armed robber or information that leads to rounding up criminals in a camp will be paid a bounty of any amount up to a maximum of N5 million.”
Governor Soludo reassured whistleblowers of protection and rewards to encourage the provision of critical information, while announcing the State call centre enabled toll-free line 5111 and 08002200008 for emergency communication.
“We must all collectively confront the warped ideology and agitation that lead many among us to view security personnel as the enemy and the criminals as the liberators,” the Governor declared, emphasizing the need for a collective shift in mindset to delegitimize criminality.
“The next few months will be turbulent. The criminals will seek out and strike at soft targets to test our will. We are in a marathon race, and not a sprint. God Almighty, who sees our hearts and works, will grant us victory. Anambra will win!”
Governor Soludo expressed confidence in overcoming the challenges ahead and achieving lasting peace, while extending his gratitude to citizens and friends of Anambra State who have supported the State Security Trust Fund.
