Agulu, Anambra State – The Anambra State Government has initiated the design of a comprehensive master plan for the development of key heritage sites, including Agulu Lake, Anam Beach, Awka City Park, Ogbunike Caves, and Owerre-Ezukala Caves.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement workshop in Agulu, the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, emphasized that the initiative aims to professionally position Anambra’s heritage sites as globally recognized tourist attractions. The project aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of transforming the state into a leading tourism destination.
Adun Okupe, Principal Adviser at Red Clay Consultants, confirmed the firm’s partnership with the state government to develop site-specific tourism plans that will not only boost economic and social benefits but also ensure environmental sustainability.
Additionally, the Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Chief Romanus Ibekwe, expressed support for the initiative, affirming that Agulu residents are fully committed to collaborating with the government to enhance the Agulu Lake tourist site.
With this strategic plan, Anambra State is positioning itself to harness the potential of its rich cultural and natural heritage, aiming to boost tourism, create employment opportunities, and drive economic growth.
