In a continued crackdown on crime, Anambra State’s security outfit, Agunechemba, has recorded major successes with the arrest of two notorious gang leaders and multiple kidnappers responsible for terrorizing local communities.
The latest breakthroughs came as part of multiple security raids following the inauguration of Operation Udo Ga-achi by Governor Charles Soludo, CFR. The special operation was launched to tackle the rising wave of insecurity across the state.
One of the arrested gang leaders, Ekene Onyemekali from Umunze, confessed to orchestrating the kidnapping of a woman and her son. According to him, the gang collected a ransom of approximately ₦10 million before brutally killing the woman. Onyemekali also identified his accomplices—Aboy, Ebuka, and Oluchukwu (alias Bobo)—who had been carrying out criminal activities in Orumba and Nnewi.
Speaking on the arrests, the Commander of Agunechemba, known as Commander Apantu, reassured Anambra residents of the security outfit’s unwavering commitment to eliminating criminal activities. He further emphasized that the government would ensure all arrested criminals are prosecuted accordingly.
During the operation, security operatives recovered two firearms, including a pump-action gun and a pistol, from Onyemekali.
In a separate operation, Agunechemba apprehended another notorious gang leader responsible for terrorizing the Ihiala area. The suspect confessed to leading a violent group operating across various locations.
In a related development, six kidnappers involved in the abduction of Rev. Fr. Nonso, a brother priest to the renowned Spiritual Director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (Ebube Muonso), were also arrested.
The arrests were revealed during Fr. Obimma’s message to worshippers at his Friday Night Vigil last weekend at the Adoration Ground, Uke. It will be recalled that Fr. Nonso and another victim regained their freedom on December 24, 2024.
These recent successes underscore the determination of Governor Soludo’s administration to restore security and peace in Anambra. Through strategic reforms and innovative security initiatives such as Operation Udo Ga-achi, the government is setting a new standard for effective governance and ensuring the protection of lives and property across the state.
