Awka, Anambra State – The Anambra State Government has taken decisive action against the burning of tires on public roads, arresting four suspects for violating a recent ban. The arrests were carried out by the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade on the newly constructed Club Road, formerly Abakiliki Street.
Leading the enforcement operation, the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere, condemned the damaging act and criticized the disregard for public infrastructure. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to prosecuting offenders, emphasizing that such actions undermine the state’s development efforts.
“This behavior is unacceptable,” Anere stated. “Residents, landlords, and community leaders must take ownership in protecting government property. The law will not spare anyone found culpable.”
One of the arrested suspects, Mr. Jeremiah Izuchukwu, pleaded for leniency, claiming he was not directly involved in the tire burning but knew those responsible.
The arrests highlight the government’s resolve to safeguard its investments in infrastructure and ensure strict compliance with the law.
