APC Moves to Buy Over Mbah? Darlington Exposes What’s Really Going On

Exclusive — Legal practitioner and political analyst, Barrister Darlington, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is attempting to woo Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah into its fold because of his rising profile and perceived closeness to the federal establishment.

Speaking during a live political discussion on VOP TV, Darlington said the move reflects a pattern of political co-option often used by the ruling party to consolidate influence across opposition strongholds.

“Once you’re in the good books of the government, APC will try to buy you over — that’s exactly what they’re doing to Governor Peter Mbah,” he stated.

He noted that Mbah’s performance in Enugu has drawn national attention, making him an attractive figure for political realignment ahead of future elections.

According to Darlington, the ruling party’s strategy is not new, as it has historically sought to absorb influential state leaders from the opposition to weaken rival parties and broaden its political base.

“It’s a calculated move — once someone is doing well and getting public approval, they want him on their side, not against them,” he added.

Darlington, however, cautioned that such political tactics often undermine democracy by prioritizing party expansion over ideology and governance, creating a system where loyalty is rewarded more than performance.

“When politicians are bought over, the people lose. What Nigeria needs is issue-based politics, not this endless game of defection and alignment,” he warned.

Observers note that Barrister Darlington’s comments come amid growing speculation about possible defections and political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially as the APC continues to expand its influence in southern states.
