The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the temporary closure of its National Secretariat in Abuja in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
This was made known in statement issued on Monday by Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, stating that the Secretariat will remain closed until Thursday, July 17, 2025, as a mark of respect for the deceased statesman.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s President from 2015 to 2023, and as military Head of State between 1984 and 1985, passed away in London at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday after a prolonged, undisclosed illness. His death was confirmed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through his Special Adviser on Information, Bayo Onanuga, and former presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu.
In response to the news, President Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to travel to the United Kingdom to oversee the return of Buhari’s remains to Nigeria. He also ordered all national flags to be flown at half-mast as a sign of national mourning.
The APC, in its statement, urged members and Nigerians at large to observe the period with solemn reflection and prayers for the peaceful repose of the late leader.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) announces the closure of its National Secretariat in Abuja in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,” the statement read.
“As directed by the Acting National Chairman of our great Party, Hon. Bukar Dalori, the Party’s National Secretariat will be closed starting today, Monday, July 14, and will reopen on Thursday, July 17, 2025.” He noted.
“We urge Party faithful to use this period of national mourning for quiet reflection and prayers for the repose of the soul of our departed leader.”
