There are strong indications that the senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, Ibrahim Lamido, is on the verge of resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid deepening disagreements with the party leadership in the state.

Sources close to the senator suggest that the move could materialize within days, following a wave of defections by his loyalists.

Among those who have already exited the party is Kabiru Shehu, a former APC chairman in Goronyo Local Government Area and a one-time sole administrator of the council.

Shehu was also the chairman of the Lamido-backed APC faction.

A senior aide to the senator, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the planned resignation was part of a broader, coordinated decision by Lamido’s political base.

According to the aide, “All his supporters are set to leave the APC, including the senator himself. It is only a matter of time.”

While the exact reasons for the looming defection remain officially undisclosed, insiders point to longstanding unresolved disputes within the party’s structure in Sokoto State.

These tensions reportedly escalated after factions loyal to Senator Lamido reportedly conducted parallel congresses, electing their own party executives at ward, local government, and state level.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the senator nor the APC leadership in the state has issued an official statement regarding the development. (Daily Trust)
