Armed Forces Remembrance Day: President Tinubu Calls for Unity and Peace/ Vop

Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has issued a heartfelt message in honor of Armed Forces Remembrance Day, urging Nigerians to embrace peace, unity, and national cohesion. The President emphasized the sacrifices made by ex-servicemen and women who laid down their lives to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity and contribute to global peace efforts.

In his address, President Tinubu acknowledged the critical need for peace both within Nigeria and across the world. He called on all citizens to reflect on the significance of the day, noting that the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces are a testament to their commitment to ensuring the country’s peaceful coexistence.

“Our nation is in dire need of peace, and so is the world,” President Tinubu stated. “As we mark this solemn event today, remember that people laid down their lives, and many still do so, to guarantee our peaceful coexistence. Therefore, let us eschew violence and divisive tendencies for a peaceful and prosperous nation.”

The President also highlighted the importance of unity in building a future filled with hope and optimism, stressing that every Nigerian has a role to play in fostering harmony and understanding. He urged citizens to become “ambassadors of peace” and contribute to a nation where “peace and unity reign supreme.”

As the country commemorates the day with wreath-laying ceremonies, prayers, and tributes to fallen heroes, President Tinubu’s message serves as a rallying call for Nigerians to honor the legacy of the nation’s armed forces by promoting peace and solidarity.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed annually on January 15, honors the sacrifices of Nigerian soldiers who served in various conflicts, including World War II, the Nigerian Civil War, and peacekeeping missions around the globe.

“Thank you, and long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the President concluded.
