Residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State were thrown into panic after heavily armed bandits launched a midnight assault on the area.
Voice of Borgu (VOP NG) reports that the attackers stormed the community at approximately 2:15 a.m., attempting to breach under the cover of darkness. Their incursion prompted a swift response from troops of the Nigerian Army, who engaged the gunmen in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The confrontation, described as “intense and prolonged,” lasted between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., forcing residents to remain indoors in fear for their lives. Reports indicate that the timely intervention of security forces prevented further escalation.
By dawn, calm had gradually returned to Woro, with residents expressing profound gratitude to Allah for their safety. Local leaders commended the bravery and swift action of the military personnel and community heads who helped contain the attack.
As of press time, authorities have not released official statements regarding casualties, arrests, or the extent of damage. Security operatives are reportedly conducting follow-up operations in surrounding areas to track down fleeing members of the gang.
In a related incident, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers attacked and abducted a trader and former ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Sabi Sise, from his residence in Boriya–Shiya Ward, Baruten Local Government Area.
VOP NG gathered that the attack occurred around 12 a.m. when the kidnappers stormed the compound, firing several shots into the air to frighten residents. One of Alhaji Sise’s sons reportedly encountered the gunmen while returning home and was forced to call his father and open the door for them. Only Alhaji Sise was taken, with other family members left unharmed.
By morning, bullet shells and live rounds littered the compound, confirming that multiple shots were fired. Residents described the incident as brief but terrifying.
The local vigilante team has been alerted and is actively searching surrounding areas to track the attackers and secure the safe release of the victim.
