Arteta Backs Arsenal’s Approach to Partey Departure Amid Rape Allegations

London – Monday, July 21, 2025

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has defended the club’s handling of Thomas Partey’s exit, as the Ghanaian midfielder continues to face serious rape allegations.

Partey recently parted ways with the North London club following months of legal uncertainty and public pressure. While the club has remained largely silent on the details, Arteta addressed the situation during a press conference ahead of Arsenal’s pre-season tour.

“We’ve done everything with integrity and in line with the information we had at every stage,” Arteta said. “It was a complex and sensitive issue, but our priority has always been the values of the club and the well-being of everyone involved.”

Partey, 31, was first linked to the allegations in mid-2022, but no formal charges were brought at the time. However, the case drew renewed attention earlier this year when fresh evidence surfaced, leading to growing calls from fans and advocacy groups for the club to take a clear stance.

While Arsenal has not confirmed whether the exit was mutually agreed or enforced, sources close to the club suggest the decision was made to avoid further distraction as the team prepares for the new Premier League season.

Arteta declined to go into legal specifics, saying only that the club had followed legal guidance throughout the process.

“We respect the legal process, but we also understand the responsibility we carry as a football club,” he added.

Partey’s representatives have continued to deny the allegations. Meanwhile, Arsenal has reiterated its commitment to upholding high standards of conduct among its players.

The midfielder’s next steps remain unclear, as legal proceedings are still ongoing.
