AS E DEY HOT | See what Akpabio did after alleged assassination allegation by Natasha Akpoti

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, requesting an investigation into what he describes as a false and defamatory assassination allegation made by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In the petition dated April 3, 2025, Akpabio also called for the criminal prosecution of Akpoti-Uduaghan for defamation. Copies of the letter were sent to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN.

The controversy erupted following a statement made by Akpoti-Uduaghan during a homecoming event on April 1 in Ihima, Kogi State. She claimed that Akpabio had directed former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and incumbent Governor Usman Ododo to assassinate her in a plot aimed at framing her constituents.

Akpabio firmly denied the allegations, describing them as “a heinous lie” and “a deliberate attempt to damage my reputation, endanger my life and security, and provoke political unrest.” He condemned the statement as politically motivated, baseless, and devoid of any supporting evidence.

“This accusation is not only false and malicious, but a calculated attempt at blackmail and character assassination,” Akpabio stated. “Her intention was clear—to stir public outrage, manipulate emotions, and discredit my person and office.”

He further emphasized the widespread impact of the allegation, which has circulated extensively across television, radio, newspapers, and social media platforms.

Calling for urgent action, Akpabio urged law enforcement agencies to address the matter swiftly and pursue legal action against Akpoti-Uduaghan under statutes relating to defamation, false accusations, and incitement.
