Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerians not to despair in the face of current challenges but to continue nurturing hope in the nation’s potential for greatness.
Jonathan made this appeal in his goodwill message to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. The statement was issued on Wednesday in Abuja by his Media Adviser, Mr. Okechukwu Eze.
The former President noted that the anniversary was a time for reflection on Nigeria’s collective journey, acknowledging both the difficulties endured and the opportunities ahead.
“It is true that we face challenges that could test our sense of hope—such as insecurity, economic disparities, and institutions that sometimes struggle to deliver on the promises of improved wellbeing, peace, and security.
Yet, as citizens, we must not lose faith. We must continue to nurture hope and sustain belief in the nation’s enormous potential and the resilience of the people,” he said.
Jonathan emphasized that Nigeria remains richly endowed with natural resources, vast land, and, above all, the creativity and ingenuity of its people. He highlighted the cultural richness and intellectual contributions of Nigerians globally as proof of the nation’s greatness.
He further urged citizens to let patriotism guide their actions.
“Let us hold firmly to optimism and faith, knowing that the greatness of our country is within reach if we remain united and steadfast. May our nation continue to rise in strength and purpose,” Jonathan said.
