Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday led a high-profile delegation to visit ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo at his hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Atiku was accompanied by former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke and former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal. The details of their discussions remain undisclosed, but the meeting comes amid growing political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku, who served as Obasanjo’s deputy from 1999 to 2007, was the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, where he finished second to President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
At 78, Atiku remains a key figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, having pursued the presidency for over three decades. His latest engagement with Obasanjo fuels speculation about opposition strategies to challenge the ruling party in the next general election.
