Nanka, February 22, 2025 – Today, Austica Memorial College, Nanka, commemorated its annual Founders’ Day celebration, coinciding with the Universal Church’s observance of the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter.
The solemn event was marked by a Holy Mass officiated by His Eminence, Cardinal Okpaleke, who delivered a poignant homily emphasizing the significance of the school’s foundation. He reminded the faithful that Austica Memorial College was established in honor of two devout Christians and members of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, Mr. Augustine Eze and Scholastica Nnolim, who were martyred for their faith on February 23, 1993. Cardinal Okpaleke extolled their virtues, urging the younger generation to see them as role models of faith and resilience.
Reflecting on the day’s feast, he explained that the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter serves as a reminder of the foundation of the Catholic faith and the divine responsibility entrusted to St. Peter in leading the Church. He called upon the faithful to remain steadfast in their prayers for the Holy Father, Pope Francis, particularly in light of his current health challenges, as well as for the shepherds of the Church at the diocesan level.
Addressing the students, Cardinal Okpaleke encouraged them to remain unwavering in their faith, exhibit good conduct, heed the guidance of their teachers, and be exemplary soldiers of Christ in their daily lives.
The Founders’ Day celebration was graced by notable dignitaries, including Prince Dr. Chibueze Oforbuike, Mayor of Aguata Local Government Area; Fr. Vitalis Azike, the Education Secretary of CADEK; Mr. Emeka Onuorah, National President of Austica Alumni Association; and members of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal from Ekwulobia Diocese.
The event featured several highlights, including the blessing of Fr. Jerry Okeke Clinic, a vibrant cultural dance display, and an impressive band and drill performance.
Austica Memorial College Nanka continues to uphold its legacy of faith and excellence, inspiring students to live out the Christian values exemplified by its founders.
