The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Awka Central Police Station, Mr. Godwin Mbah, has emphasized the importance of community collaboration in ensuring effective policing, urging residents to provide timely and useful information to aid crime prevention and security efforts.
Speaking at the palace of the Traditional Ruler of Awka, Obi Gibson Nwosu, Mr. Mbah stressed that security agencies alone cannot combat crime without the active support of the public. He reiterated that a strong partnership between law enforcement and community stakeholders is crucial, adding that the “see something, say something” approach remains a vital strategy in crime fighting.
In response, the Traditional Prime Minister of Awka, Chief Benjamin Okoye, and a community stakeholder, Chief Jonathan Nzekwe, acknowledged the role of the police in maintaining law and order. They, however, emphasized the need for security personnel to discharge their duties with integrity and professionalism to foster public trust and cooperation.
The call for stronger community engagement in security efforts comes amid growing concerns over crime rates, reinforcing the need for a united front in tackling criminal activities.
