Awka South Women Entrepreneurship Conference Empowers Women/Vop

The maiden edition of the Awka South Women Entrepreneurship Conference, organized by the Centre for Innovation and Creativity, Amawbia, and supported by the Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honorable Chukwumma Okoye, has successfully taken place at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Amawbia.

The conference was designed to equip participants with essential entrepreneurial knowledge, providing insights on skill enhancement, business growth, and turning business ideas into reality. The initiative aimed at fostering self-reliance among women, ultimately benefiting their families and society at large.

Dr. Okey Cyril-Nwuche, Proprietor of the Centre for Innovation and Creativity, Amawbia, emphasized that empowering women has a far-reaching impact, starting from the family and extending to the broader society. He noted that beyond distributing startup items, imparting entrepreneurial knowledge is crucial to ensuring sustainable business success. Dr. Cyril-Nwuche also urged the government to support existing small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), rather than focusing solely on startups, as this would significantly boost the economy. He expressed appreciation to Right Honorable Okoye for his support of the centre’s initiatives.

In his remarks, the Deputy Speaker, Right Honorable Okoye, highlighted the critical role women play in the economy despite the numerous challenges they face. He explained that his support for the program aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of economic empowerment for young people, aimed at fostering self-sufficiency.

Dignitaries present at the event included the traditional ruler of Umuawulu, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu; the Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Awka South, Barrister Lawrence Chukwumma; and the Leader of the Congress of Councillors in the local government area, Mrs. Joy Okonkwo.

The conference featured a series of lectures on various entrepreneurship topics, led by Lady Devine Njideka, and concluded with certificate presentations to guests and participants.
