The Abagana Youth Association Lagos (AYAL) commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Abagana Unity Cup Championship with a grand celebration in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The event, which marked a milestone in the history of the championship, included the recognition of individuals whose contributions have been pivotal to the tournament’s success and sustainability since its establishment.
Founded in 2000 by Chief Denis Amobi, the Unity Cup Championship was conceived as a platform to promote unity among the youth of Abagana. Over the years, it has become a beacon of community harmony, using sports, particularly football, to foster camaraderie, respect, and enduring relationships.
Chief Denis Amobi, the tournament’s founder and Grand Sponsor, was among those honored at the event. In his remarks, Chief Amobi reaffirmed his dedication to the championship, citing his passion for football as a driving force behind his commitment to funding the event annually.
Prominent figures such as the Mayor of Orumba North Local Government Area, Captain Chinonso Nwafor (Rtd.), the President-General of Abagana Welfare Union Worldwide, Chief Ben Okongwu, and Chief Anthony Anaekwe, fondly referred to as the Father of the Youth, extended their prayers and goodwill to the organizers and sponsors.
