The Azia community in Ihiala Local Government Area came together in a grand display of unity and reverence to perform the final Ofala ceremony for their late traditional ruler, Igwe Pius Chikwado Ojuro. The solemn event, which marked the conclusion of his 39-year reign, was held at the monarch’s palace in Umudansu village.

The ceremony began with a holy Mass celebrated by Reverend Father Chijioke Azuawusi, an indigenous priest. The service was attended by a diverse gathering, including clergy, religious leaders, and Most Reverend Luka Gopep, the Auxiliary Catholic Bishop of Minna Diocese, who joined to pay their respects.

In his homily, Reverend Father Azuawusi lauded Igwe Ojuro’s reign, describing it as a transformative period of peace and development for the community. He called the final Ofala a moment of celebration and thanksgiving for the impactful life of the late ruler.

Dr. Ifeanyi Ojuro, the Obi of Umudansu and the monarch’s first son, described his father as a man of intelligence, humility, and contentment. He expressed gratitude to all who attended, underscoring the significance of his father’s legacy.

Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, one of the daughters of the late monarch and the Executive Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), Awka, reflected on her father’s dedication to education and his peaceful nature. She credited his influence for her achievements and thanked the community, officials, and guests for their support during the ceremony.
