Bauchi Governor Bala Muhammad Faces PRP Rejection Amid Defection Talk

The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has dismissed reports suggesting that Governor Bala Muhammad is considering joining the party, citing the “disbandment and inevitable collapse” of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the source of speculation.

In a statement on Wednesday, PRP State Secretary Wada Abdullahi said the party has “set clear boundaries” and would not welcome the governor should the rumours prove true.

According to the PRP, Governor Muhammad’s tenure has been marked by poor performance, which the party described as “disappointing and unacceptable.” The statement also criticised the governor’s conduct and that of his supporters during recent political activities in Abuja, saying it “is inconsistent with the values of our party, which stands for sanity, decency, orderliness, and discipline.”

The PRP further stated that if it assumes government in 2027, it would review policies implemented during Muhammad’s tenure, investigate alleged mismanagement, and reverse decisions deemed detrimental, including the creation of a First Class Emirate and the appointment of his elder brother as Emir.

Despite its firm stance, the party emphasised that its doors remain open to individuals who have “contributed positively to the development of Bauchi State” and who can support the growth of the PRP. The statement concluded by reaffirming the party’s commitment to integrity and service.
