The Bauchi State Government says it has rehabilitated and constructed 300 basic and post-basic schools as part of efforts to enhance access to free, quality education across the state.
Mr. Jalaludeen Usman, Public Relations Officer at the State Ministry of Education, disclosed this while presenting the scorecard of Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration over the past year.
Usman revealed that the administration, in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB), has also built three new model primary schools in Mashema, Dagauda, and Yalwan Duguri, to complement existing infrastructure.
As part of its comprehensive education reform agenda, the state government deployed 2,000 newly recruited teachersto basic schools and 1,000 teachers to senior secondary schools to tackle the shortage of qualified educators. The administration has also prioritised teacher training and professional development to improve instructional quality across classrooms.
In a further push to ease financial burdens on families, Governor Mohammed approved the release of ₦793 million to cover 2025 external examination fees for 25,410 indigent students. The funds cover exams administered by NECO, NABTEB, NBAIS, and JAMB.
Usman also highlighted the successful implementation of major infrastructure programmes, including:
-
Provision of 18,000 Integrated Qur’an Education (IQE) temporary learning spaces through the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) initiative.
-
Distribution of 30,474 furniture units, construction of 880 temporary IQE shades, and 12 four-classroom blocks under the UBEC Smart Model School project.
-
Mapping of 21,000 non-formal Qur’anic schools to support integration into the formal education system.
“The governor’s comprehensive approach to educational reform reflects a deep commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and quality education system,” Usman said.
Girls’ Education Receives Major Boost
Ms. Ladi Mohammed, Project Coordinator for the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), also praised the administration’s commitment to advancing girls’ education, a project supported by the World Bank.
Under AGILE, the government has commenced construction of 42 new schools (21 junior and 21 senior secondary schools) equipped with solar power, gender-segregated toilets, and security infrastructure. Additionally, the government plans to renovate 1,003 existing schools and construct 835 junior and 168 senior secondary schools to enhance learning environments for adolescent girls.
