Bauchi Police to Restart Enforcement of Tinted Glass Law from January 2

The Bauchi State Police Command has announced that it will resume the enforcement of regulations governing the use of tinted vehicle glass across the state beginning January 2, 2026.

The decision was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, who said the action followed directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

According to the police, the renewed enforcement is part of efforts to address emerging security challenges and improve public safety. Authorities explained that recent assessments showed the need to strengthen monitoring of vehicles, particularly in light of criminal activities linked to concealed vehicle movement.

Habib clarified that there is no court order preventing the police from enforcing the tinted glass regulations. He noted that enforcement had previously been relaxed to allow motorists time to regularise their documents and obtain the required permits.

“With effect from January 2, 2026, motorists are expected to comply fully by obtaining valid tinted glass permits through the appropriate channels,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured residents that officers would carry out the exercise professionally and with respect for citizens’ rights.

Police authorities urged drivers to cooperate, stressing that unauthorized tinted windows often make it difficult to identify suspicious vehicles, a factor security agencies say has been exploited by criminals.

Bauchi State has recently experienced heightened security concerns, including cases of kidnappings and vehicle-related crimes. Officials believe stricter enforcement of vehicle regulations will help curb these threats and enhance overall security in the state.
