The Anambra State House of Assembly has advanced a bill to establish the Anambra State Bursary and Scholarship Fund Management Agency, as it passed its second reading during plenary.
The bill, sponsored by Chief Tony Muobike, representing Aguata Constituency Two, seeks to create a structured framework for managing bursary and scholarship funds in the state. According to Chief Muobike, the legislation aims to support educational development by assisting indigent students, rewarding academic excellence, leadership, and extracurricular achievements, and promoting research.
Chief Muobike added that the bill would encourage students to pursue disciplines vital to the state and nation’s development, enhance diversity in the education system, and foster innovation through research funding.
In their contributions, Minority Leader Honourable Johnbosco Akaegbobi, Honourable Golden Iloh of Ihiala Constituency Two, and Dr. Jude Akpua, representing Njikoka Constituency Two, emphasized the bill’s importance in improving access to education for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, commended the bill, describing it as a crucial step aligned with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s education-focused agenda. He subsequently referred the bill to the appropriate committee for further examination and refinement.
The bill is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing education and human capital development in Anambra State.
