Bishop Crowther Seminary, Awka, has reiterated its dedication to fostering sports as a vital tool for the holistic development of children. The school’s principal, Reverend Canon Jonathan Ikpoyi, emphasized this commitment during the institution’s 31st Inter-House Sports Competition, which attracted sports enthusiasts, including the Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Mr. Christopher Molokwu.
In his address, Reverend Ikpoyi highlighted the importance of sports in enhancing students’ mental alertness and overall academic performance. He noted that a well-rounded education must incorporate physical activities to support cognitive and social development.
The Proprietor of the Seminary and Archbishop of the Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, underscored the significance of maintaining physical well-being, stating that only a healthy individual can thrive spiritually. Similarly, the event’s Chairman, Comrade Amaechi Ejiogu, and the school’s PTA Chairman, Ambassador John Ifejika, described the competition as an opportunity to discover and nurture raw talents.
This year’s event, themed “Sports: A Veritable Tool in Curbing the Menace of Social Vices Among Youths,” featured various activities, including a match past, football tournament, athletics, and special races for staff and parents. Outstanding participants were recognized with special prizes for their performances.
The competition reaffirmed the school’s stance on integrating sports into its academic framework to promote discipline, teamwork, and personal development among students.
