The Bishop Anglican Diocese of Amichi, the Rt Rev’d Ephraim Okechukwu Ikeakor has described the late Ven David Nonyelum as a man who discipled many people for Christ
and made so much impact in the lives of many.
Bishop Ikeakor said this during the burial ceremony of the late Ven David Nonyelum at St Peter’s Anglican Church Mgbakwu in Awka North local government of Anambra state.
Bishop Ikeakor said that in the late 80’s, Ven David was one of the astute teachers of the Bible at the famous St Johns Anglican Church Fegge Onitsha.
He described his death as a shock to him and a big loss that has created a very big vacuum in the Diocese of Amichi. He said that our consolation is on the fact that we have a better place in heaven.
Bishop Ikeakor said that late Ven David was a man who was faithful to the call of God till death and a priest who went about the priesthood ministry with sincerity and contentment.
The Bishop later preached on the topic, “The Great Reminder”. He used the avenue to remind everyone that we are strangers and pilgrims without any permanent place here on earth. He said that we should not allow the glory of this world to take away our focus from the heavenly glory which is far superior to the earthly glory.
The burial which was heavily attended by people from all walks of live had the four Bishops, Rt Rev’d Ephraim O. Ikeakor, of Amichi Diocese, Rt Rev’d Paul Udogu, of Afikpo Diocese, Rt Rev’d Daniel Olinya of Eha-Amufu Diocese and Rt Rev’d Obiora Uzochukwu of Niger East Diocese in attendance.
The Archbishop of Niger Province and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev’d Alexander Ibezim was represented by his Administrative Assistant, Ven Prince Chuma Oranye. Bishops wives in attendance include Dame Nkem Ikeakor of Amichi Diocese and Mrs Blessing Udogu of Afikpo Diocese.
The Clergymen and Laity from Amichi Diocese troopped out en masse for the burial with other Clergymen from other Dioceses within and outside the province in attendance.
The late Ven David Nonyelum left behind the wife, Mrs Christiana Nonyelum, the son, Makuochukwu Nonyelum and an aged mother with other relatives and loved ones to mourn his departure.
