
The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, has called on the people of Nawgu in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra State, to uphold compassion and love for all, including their adversaries, as a pathway to a harmonious society.

Bishop Ezeokafor made this call while delivering a homily during a Holy Mass at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Nawgu, as part of his pastoral visit to the community. The historic event took place on Sunday, 23rd February 2025, drawing a large congregation of the faithful and dignitaries.
Among those in attendance were the Chancellor of Awka Catholic Diocese, Rev. Fr. Charles Ndubuisi; the Bursar of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Nicodemus Izuchukwu; Catholic and Anglican priests serving in Nawgu, the Traditional Ruler of Nawgu Kingdom, Igwe Sir George Okaa-Onwuogu; as well as prominent Nawgu Catholic Knights and Ladies.
The highlight of the occasion was the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation to 274 candidates, signifying their full initiation into the Catholic faith. Bishop Ezeokafor emphasized the significance of the sacrament, urging the newly confirmed individuals to live exemplary lives anchored in faith, love, and service to humanity.
He reiterated the need for unity and peaceful coexistence in Nawgu, stressing that genuine love and forgiveness are essential for societal progress. The Bishop further encouraged the faithful to remain steadfast in their faith and to actively contribute to the growth of the Church and the community at large.
