Blame Fubara, Not Tinubu” – Defence Minister Justifies Military Takeover in Rivers

As outrage mounts over President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has come out in full support of the controversial move, blaming Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the state’s political crisis.

In a bold statement, Matawalle defended the federal government’s intervention, insisting that Fubara’s alleged disregard for the law—including the demolition of the state House of Assembly—left no choice but to impose emergency rule.

“This action has contributed to the ongoing political impasse and the inability of the government to effectively serve the people,” Matawalle asserted, painting Fubara as the architect of Rivers’ instability.

The minister also issued a stern warning, revealing that security forces are on high alert to crush any resistance. “Any attempts to attack government facilities or disrupt public order will be met with a resolute response,” he declared, signaling a potential military crackdown.

Critics, however, see the emergency rule as an orchestrated political assault, accusing Tinubu’s government of using force to silence opposition and undermine democracy. As tensions escalate, the battle for Rivers State is shaping up to be a major test for Nigeria’s fragile democracy.
