Boko Haram Bombs Kill 9 Soldiers, Injure Several in Borno

At least nine Nigerian soldiers have been confirmed dead following an explosion involving improvised explosive devices (IEDs) near Gubio, Borno State. Several other soldiers were injured and are currently receiving medical attention.

A top military source revealed that the explosives were planted by Boko Haram and stressed that the incident was not a gun ambush. The soldiers were travelling from Maiduguri and had stopped at a roadside camp on Saturday before continuing their journey the following day, when the deadly blast occurred.

Eight soldiers died on Sunday, while one more succumbed to injuries on Monday morning, bringing the total death toll to nine. The affected soldiers belong to the 145 Damasak unit under the 5 Brigade in Maiduguri. Many of the injured sustained severe trauma from the powerful explosion.
