Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly launched a brutal attack on a military base in Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, leaving at least one soldier feared dead and several others injured.
According to local sources, the insurgents stormed the base on Monday evening, unleashing gunfire on troops, leading to multiple casualties. A military reinforcement team responding to the assault also reportedly hit a landmine, resulting in more injuries and potential deaths.
While the exact number of casualties remains unclear, a military source confirmed that “many soldiers were killed,” contradicting official reports downplaying the incident. The state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, acknowledged the loss of one soldier and another wounded but insisted it was due to an improvised explosive device (IED) rather than a direct attack.
The latest strike raises fresh concerns about the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in the region and the continued threat to Nigerian military forces despite ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
