Sources close to the Dangote family confirmed that Dantata died peacefully surrounded by family members. Details surrounding the cause of death remain private, though it is believed he had been battling age-related health complications.
Born into the prestigious Dantata family of Kano, Aminu Dantata was a towering figure in the realms of commerce and philanthropy. As the head of the Dantata Group, he played a pivotal role in expanding the family’s business empire, laying the foundation upon which his nephew, Aliko Dangote, built the Dangote Group—now one of the largest industrial conglomerates in Africa.
Tributes have begun pouring in from leaders, business executives, and admirers across the continent. In a heartfelt statement, Aliko Dangote described his uncle as “a mentor, father figure, and one of the finest minds Nigeria has ever known.”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also expressed his condolences, calling Dantata “a symbol of industry, humility, and nation-building whose influence stretched far beyond the boardroom.”
Funeral arrangements, in accordance with Islamic rites, are expected to take place later today in Kano, where he will be laid to rest.
Alhaji Aminu Dantata is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren, and a legacy that will echo through generations.
