Bandit killed by Army troops at Edu LGA of Kwara
Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade, operating from Forward Operating Base Patigi in Kwara, have neutralised a suspected bandit during a patrol in Edu Local Government Area of the state.
Capt. Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Ilorin.
He said the troops, acting on credible intelligence, laid an ambush around Daban-Lema Road in the early hours of Thursday.
“At about 12:10 a.m., the vigilant troops engaged the armed bandits in a firefight. The criminals were overpowered with superior firepower and forced to retreat. In the process, one bandit was neutralised,” Nwankwo stated.
Items recovered included an AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a motorcycle. The remains of the neutralised suspect were handed over to the relevant authorities.
Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Ezra Barkins, commended the troops for their vigilance and resilience, urging them to remain steadfast in ongoing operations to eliminate criminal elements and protect lives and property in the state.
