Civilians in both Ukraine and Russia were killed or injured in a wave of overnight drone attacks, officials confirmed on Thursday.
In Ukraine, several fires broke out in the southeastern city of Dnipro following drone strikes, according to Serhiy Lysak, the regional military governor. Five people were injured in the city of Nikopol, bringing the total number of casualties in the region to ten. Eight of the victims remain hospitalized, while two are receiving outpatient care, Lysak said via Telegram.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched 64 drones overnight—fewer than in previous days. Thirty-six were intercepted, while 23 drones struck targets across five locations. The air force added that five drones were non-explosive decoys.
Across the border, Russian authorities also reported casualties. State news agency TASS said one woman was killed and at least three people injured in Ukrainian drone attacks. Russia’s Ministry of Defence claimed to have intercepted 122 Ukrainian drones, particularly over the Moscow and Bryansk regions.
In the city of Voronezh, three children were hurt when debris from a downed drone damaged a residential building, Governor Aleksandr Gusev confirmed. Four apartments were affected. Additional drone-related injuries were reported in the Kaluga and Smolensk regions, and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said three drones targeting the capital were shot down overnight.
In the Belgorod region near the Ukrainian border, a Ukrainian drone dropped an explosive on a home, killing a woman, according to regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
Ukraine has intensified long-range drone operations targeting Russian territory as part of its broader defense strategy. However, the scale of damage from Ukrainian strikes remains limited compared to the widespread destruction caused by Russian forces over the course of the three-year conflict.
