Breaking: Federal Government to Shut Lagos Bridge for Repairs

The Federal Government has declared that, the Ijora Bridge in Lagos will be completely closed from April 27 to allow for essential repair works.

This was announced on Monday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, during an inspection of the bridge.

She made it known that, the bridge linking Ijora Causeway to Apapa required extensive repairs, with a focus on replacing damaged bearings located beneath the deck.

“This bridge has been awarded for some time now in different phases. We are now at the final phase, which involves lifting the entire bridge deck to change the faulty bearings beneath. A lot of the bearings are defective, and approximately 50 of them will be replaced across three sections.” Kesha said.

Going further, Kesha highlighted the significance of the Ijora Bridge, describing it as a vital link to Apapa, home to two of Nigeria’s busiest ports, Tincan and Apapa ports. While acknowledging that the closure would cause inconvenience for road users, she stressed that the repairs were essential to ensure commuter safety and to prevent the bridge from deteriorating further.
